pilates for breast cancer survivors

Last weekend I went on a training course to learn how pilates can help women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Our tutor was an experienced Pilates Instructor and also a breast cancer survivor.  We learned which exercises are of most benefit post surgery, to help restore full range of movements at the joints, to help stretch tight muscles and skin following surgery and radiation treatment, and to re balance the body. Often our posture changes when we have a vulnerable area in the body, in attempt to protect that area. Pilates helps to improve posture and importantly helps that person get in touch with their body again and regain a sense of control in their life after such trauma.
